法国后印象派画家、雕塑家，与梵高、塞尚合称“印象派三杰”，对现当代绘画的发展有着非常深远的影响。

高更的画带着原始质朴热情色调；他习惯把颜色做块面处理，自由地加重色泽的明亮感，有种特殊的美感。

He wandered about the hills and the bathed in the stream. And he sat about the front looking at the lagoon, and at sunset he would go down and look at Murea. He used to go natives. He was a nice, quite fellow.

The passion that held he was a passion to create beauty. It gave him no peace. It urged him hither and thither. He was eternally a pilgrim, haunted by a divine nostalgia, and the demon within him was ruthless.

Why should you think that beauty, which is the most precious thing in the word, lies like a stone on the beach for the careless passer-by to pick up idly .

They call beautiful a dress, a dog, a sermon; and when they are face to face with Beauty cannot recognise it.
